Adding to our already formidable range of Morocco trips, this new mountain biking adventure takes in three varied Moroccan highlights – Marrakech, the High Atlas Mountains and the attractive fort town of Essaouira on the Atlantic Coast.

A notch down on the difficulty level from our other trips in the region, but still throwing up plenty of excitement and off-road challenges, our Atlas-Atlantic MTB adventure has something for everyone, from spectacular mountain scenery to rural culture, from varied and exciting trails to comfortable, convivial accommodation.

Starting and finishing in the enthralling melting-pot of Arab and African culture which is Marrakech, we spend three days biking along a mixture of rough dirt roads and mountainous single tracks, first in the foothills and then at higher altitudes of the Atlas Mountains, before a couple of days of coastal forest trails, camel rides, and winding down, in laidback Essaouira, Morocco’s most enticing coastal spot.

In the High Atlas our chosen base is a guest house close to the village of Ouirgane. At low enough reaches to be accessible to most relatively fit riders, but high enough to offer access to the drama of the highest mountains in North Africa, we are confident we’ve found the perfect spot! In Essaouira our chosen accommodation is a traditional “riad” in the medina allowing us access to a good range of restaurants, cafes and bars, as well as the old fishing port and a beautiful sweeping sandy bay.

All in all, an ideal spring and autumn break for intermediate off road riders seeking some fun trails and an exciting cultural experience.
